About
Joanne & Stephen Crosby

Owners' and Operation Management

Born in Orillia, and raised in a farming community, Joanne  thrived in an extensive multi-generational inclusive family atmosphere where the definition of ‘family’ included close friends. When her father needed care, Joanne stepped in as his sole caregiver. Her goal was to ensure that he aged with dignity, joy and grace.

A Hamilton native, Stephen practiced Dentistry in Toronto and Orillia. After selling his practice, neither was ready to retire. Both coming from a life of service, the opportunity to promote empowerment to independent older individuals.

When an opportunity presented itself, they took the plunge.

About
TARA RETIREMENT

The name ‘Tara’ carries echoes of regality, wisdom, and the connection between the earthly and the divine, reflecting its diverse linguistic and cultural heritage.

The linguistic roots of ‘Tara’ can be traced back to multiple languages. The name encompasses a wide range of meanings, from celestial beauty to majestic heights and solid fortitude. The Sanskrit origin means ‘star’ symbolizing the light of the soul. The Gaelic and Irish origins signify ‘rock’ or ‘tower’ reflecting the seat of the High King of Ireland signifying ‘elevated place’. And who can forget the cultural connection to the famous O’Hara’s plantation ‘Tara’ in the 1970’s film ‘Gone with the Wind’ or a character from television series like ‘The Avengers’  and ‘All My Children’. Whatever the origin reference you prefer, all carry the connotations of royalty and leadership.

At Tara Retirement Home our philosophy to live up to the name by providing a home where residents live with dignity, respect, privacy and autonomy, in security, safety and comfort and can make informed choices about their care options.

Our 90 year old Mother was adamant she wanted to stay in the home she’d been in for over years but her was declining so she agreed it was time to go into a retirement home for assistance.

Tara Retirement Home was recommended to us so we went to observe it and fell in love with the cleanliness and the family style feel to it. Joanne, Lori and the rest of the amazing staff welcomed our Mother and made us realize this would be a smooth transition for her. Homemade meals prepared daily, regular cleaning, laundry service and activities she could participate in. She has made new friends and is extremely happy there. She now realizes this was the best decision for her. Thank you for your kinds and compassion and for including her as part of the family!
